Geometric design with a pleasing natural look and feel, the Colins collection is decadently tactile underfoot. Suitable for any living area, this contemporary design will blend well and offset almost any decor. Robust enough to withstand the demands of a busy lifestyle, this rug is a sensible choice for anyone who wants to add an element of upmarket distinction to their home.

Among the rugs we carry, Collins Soapstone is one of the easiest to recommend.

How it handles real life

Day to day, it earns its keep in any room that has limestone tiles as a starting point. Wool wants gentler care than a synthetic. Vacuum without a beater bar where possible, blot spills immediately, and get any serious staining professionally cleaned rather than scrubbing. Drag a chair, drop a fork, knock over the wine — this construction tolerates all three.

On the design

The colour story matters here. A grey-toned rug is the easiest way to anchor a room without committing to a strong palette. There is enough variation in the weave to keep the rug from reading flat — it has depth without busyness. The longer you sit in a room with this rug, the less you notice it — which is exactly what a good rug is meant to do.

What's under the surface

At a glance: Hand-loomed in India. India's handloom workshops produce textile pieces with a tactile quality that's very hard to replicate on a machine. A wool rug behaves differently from a synthetic one. It sheds lightly for the first few months (that's normal), then settles into a piece you'll keep for decades. At 10mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. Construction-wise, this is built to look the same six months in as the day it arrived.

Picking the right size

Things customers ask

Can I put a rug pad underneath?

Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.

Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?

There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.

Is the back of the rug latex-coated?

The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.

Can I use this with underfloor heating?

Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.

Can I steam clean this rug?

We don't recommend steam cleaning wool — professional dry cleaning is the safer path.
