Spectacular with any decor, these ambient rugs are bound to be part of your home for many years to come.
Quiet, considered, and easy to commit to — that's the short version of Scandanavian Pebble.
On the design
What is happening at the surface is straightforward. Grey rugs sit quietly in a room and let the rest of the space do the talking — it's why they outsell almost everything else we carry. The pattern is broken just enough at the surface to keep the visual rhythm interesting without ever feeling busy. The design is balanced enough to centre a coffee table and quiet enough to let a strong artwork dominate above it.
What's under the surface
Woven in Belgium. Belgian weaving has a reputation for precision, and you can see it in the way the pattern sits on the surface of this rug. Polypropylene doesn't fade in our harsh Australian sun the way some natural fibres do, and it's the reason we trust it in living rooms with northern light. This is a 17mm pile — soft, considered, with enough density to spring back from foot traffic without flattening. The back of the rug shows the construction clearly — close, even stitching, no slack spots, no thin patches.
Which size?
We carry this in a few sizes — a 160x230cm sits well under a coffee table, a 200x290cm anchors a standard three-piece lounge, and the 240x330cm extends well past a queen bed. See our Rug Size Guide for the full layout breakdown.
Living with it
In a real Australian room, we see this style most often in newer Australian builds with pale oak floorboards and a lot of glazing. For everyday care, vacuum weekly and spot-clean spills as they happen — a damp cloth and a small amount of mild detergent handles almost anything. It handles a Labrador, a Cavoodle, or two of each. We have heard variations on that brief many times. If you have a Roomba or similar, the pile here is short enough that it will get a proper clean without snagging.
We've sold Scandanavian Pebble to hundreds of Australian homes, and the feedback rarely changes — it just works.
Things customers ask
Will this rug shed?
No, not in the meaningful sense. Synthetic pile is heat-set rather than spun from short staple fibres, so you may see a small amount of fibre in the first week and very little after that.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.
Does it work with a robot vacuum?
Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.
Will it cope with kids and pets?
Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.
Can I return it if it isn't right?
Yes — we offer a clear returns window because we know a rug needs to be seen in the actual room. The details are on our returns page, and we'll talk you through it if anything is unclear.
