About the look
Grey rugs sit quietly in a room and let the rest of the space do the talking — it's why they outsell almost everything else we carry. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. Across a 200x290cm or 240x330cm, that calm reads as confidence rather than absence.
Day-to-day
It earns its keep in any room that has Tasmanian oak floorboards as a starting point. For wine, blood, or any pigmented spill, blot quickly with cold water and a mild detergent — the colour will lift before it has time to bond. Rotate the rug end-to-end every few months so foot traffic wears evenly across the surface.
About the make
The short version: Made in Belgium on Wilton looms. Belgian weaving has a reputation for precision, and you can see it in the way the pattern sits on the surface of this rug. Polypropylene yarns take colour exceptionally well — the tones you see in the photo are stable and hold up under daily sun exposure. This is a 17mm pile — soft, considered, with enough density to spring back from foot traffic without flattening. The construction is built to take the daily compression of foot traffic without flattening through the centre.
Picking the right size
We carry this in a few sizes — a 160x230cm sits well under a coffee table, a 200x290cm anchors a standard three-piece lounge, and the 240x330cm extends well past a queen bed. See our Rug Size Guide for the full layout breakdown.
Scandanavian Natural ends up in a lot of finished rooms because it earns its place without insisting on it.
Questions we get asked
Will the pattern repeat be obvious?
Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
Can I use this with underfloor heating?
Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.
How do I get rid of a stain?
Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
Is the back of the rug latex-coated?
The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.
Do you offer samples?
We don't typically send physical samples — most of our customers find the photos and our written notes get them close enough. If you want extra photos in natural light, message us and we'll send them through.
