Natural fiber, Jute rugs are soft underfoot, kind to the environment and long lasting. Durable and hard wearing, these rugs withstand punishment from pets and active little feet. Perfect for living rooms, or highly trafficked areas, these attractive, subtly textured and braided rugs will protect your floors and look good all the while. Elegance and practicality are hard features to beat when looking to enhance your home and Jute fits the bill with aplomb.
Among the rugs we carry, Anglo Jute Natural is one of the easiest to recommend.
What's under the surface
The short version: Made in India by skilled artisans. Hand-weaving in India still happens at village scale, and the irregularities you'll feel in the pile are part of what makes a hand-loomed rug feel different from a machine-made one. Jute is the most honest of natural fibres — coarse, sturdy, and quietly beautiful. It mellows in tone as it ages. Density is what matters with a piece like this — it is what gives the rug its longevity.
Day-to-day
Sun, rain, and the occasional cyclonic afternoon — this construction handles all of it. Hose-down cleaning is the main upkeep. Avoid steam, avoid bleach, avoid solvent cleaners. Cool water and mild detergent is the protocol our family uses on every poly rug we own. Rolling vacuum, ride-on toys, the cat — none of it bothers the surface in any way you will notice.
About the look
The colour story matters here. True white is a brave choice in a family home, but in the right room — a master bedroom, a low-traffic formal living space — nothing else has quite the same lift. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. Walk past it daily and you stop noticing it consciously — which is the highest compliment a quiet rug can earn.
Sizing
Sizes range across our usual run — if you're unsure which to pick, our Rug Size Guide walks through the common Australian room layouts.
We've sold Anglo Jute Natural to hundreds of Australian homes, and the feedback rarely changes — it just works.
Questions we get asked
Does it work with a robot vacuum?
Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
How do I get rid of a stain?
Hose it down. If the spill is something serious, a mild detergent and a soft brush will get the rest, and the sun finishes the job.
