The Charlotte Collection features a neutral palette of rugs exemplified by its high and low shrunken yarn construction. Made from 100% polypropylene, these Turkish-made rugs are hard-wearing and easy to clean. Perfect for those seeking non-distinct patterns with a natural collection of colors, these rugs add a subtle touch of elegance to any space.
We added Velvet Essence Runner to the range for one reason: it does the basics extremely well.
On colour
We sell more cream rugs than any other colour. They suit the way most Australians live: warm-neutral walls, pale timbers, lots of natural light. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. Stand in the doorway and the rug barely registers; sit on the floor and the texture and pile depth come forward.
What's under the surface
The short version: From Turkey's long power-loom tradition. We've worked with Turkish mills for decades — the country's heritage in rugs runs deep, and the power-loom programmes are some of the most consistent in the world. What polypropylene gives up in heritage feel it more than makes back in colourfastness and easy upkeep. At 11mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. The back of the rug shows the construction clearly — close, even stitching, no slack spots, no thin patches.
Picking the right size
For hallways and galley kitchens, the 80x300cm length we run here is the most commonly bought — our Rug Size Guide walks through how to pick the right length for your space.
Living with it
We see this style most often in a Perth open-plan living-dining where one large rug has to define both zones. It will not stain the way a wool or cotton rug can — wine, juice, and pet accidents lift with a damp cloth if you get to them within a reasonable window. We have customers who have lived with the same rug for the better part of a decade. It still looks intentional.
Velvet Essence Runner is the kind of buy you don't second-guess a year later.
FAQs
Can I cut the rug to size?
We don't recommend cutting a finished rug — the edges are bound and the construction relies on that binding to stay intact. If you need a custom size, message us and we'll see what's possible.
Is the back of the rug latex-coated?
The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.
Will it cope with kids and pets?
Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.
