Woven by hand in India, the Kalvin rug is an experience for the senses, mixed wool fibers create variable textured height, which defines the tactile nature of these exclusive rugs. Much of this rug’s appeal lies in its ability to blend with a setting, while still projecting its rustic ascetics, which adds character and charm to any space. Kalvin never overpowers, but it’ll seldom go unnoticed wherever it rests.
kalvin Wool Silver Ivory has the quiet self-confidence of a well-made object — no styling tricks, no marketing veneer.
On the design
Worth a moment on the look of it. A grey-toned rug is the easiest way to anchor a room without committing to a strong palette. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so it has real depth in the surface. Up close, you can see how the colour shifts slightly across the pile — that subtle variation is what stops the surface looking printed.
How it's made
At a glance: Belgian-woven. The Wilton tradition in Belgium produces rugs with extremely fine pattern detail — the kind of edge clarity that holds up under close inspection. A wool rug behaves differently from a synthetic one. It sheds lightly for the first few months (that's normal), then settles into a piece you'll keep for decades. The construction is built to take the daily compression of foot traffic without flattening through the centre.
Day-to-day
Among the rooms our customers describe to us, in the master bedroom of a coastal NSW home, where the rug is the first thing your feet touch in the morning is the most common context for a piece like this. Avoid harsh cleaners on wool. Blotting cool water onto a fresh spill, then dabbing dry, is the right first move. Once you have it down, the rug is one of the lowest-maintenance pieces of furniture you will ever buy.
Picking the right size
If you are between sizes, we almost always recommend sizing up. Our Rug Size Guide has the room-by-room measurements we use ourselves.
If you have been circling rugs for weeks, kalvin Wool Silver Ivory is a sensible place to stop.
Common questions
Does it work with a robot vacuum?
Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.
Can I cut the rug to size?
We don't recommend cutting a finished rug — the edges are bound and the construction relies on that binding to stay intact. If you need a custom size, message us and we'll see what's possible.
Does this rug ship rolled or folded?
Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Will this rug shed?
A wool rug will shed lightly for the first three to six months. This is normal — wool fibres come loose at the end of the weave and clear with regular vacuuming. After the initial settle, shedding tails off significantly.
