The Colorado rug is a machine-made Turkish rug that boasts a natural, jute-like appearance while also offering superior durability and ease of maintenance. Unlike traditional jute rugs, the Colorado rug is designed to be vacuumed easily and cleaned without difficulty, minimizing shedding and maintaining a fresh, polished look. Additionally, this rug is resistant to yellowing when exposed to moisture, making it a great choice for high-traffic or outdoor areas. If you're looking for a rug that brings the natural aesthetic of jute with less maintenance, the Colorado rug is an ideal option.

Colorado Blueray is one of the rugs we recommend to customers who have already bought a wool piece elsewhere and want something more practical for a high-traffic room.

About the make

The short version: Turkish-made. Turkey remains the place where heritage design and modern weaving meet most comfortably — you get the look of a hand-knotted rug at a fraction of the cost. We have lived with polypropylene rugs in our own homes for years. They survive children, vacuum cleaners, and the occasional small disaster without losing their shape. At 10mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. Build quality holds up to close inspection — there are no shortcuts in the weave or the finish.

Living with it

Day to day, sun, rain, and the occasional cyclonic afternoon — this construction handles all of it. Hose-down cleaning is the main upkeep. Vacuum, blot, and live with it. That is genuinely the entire maintenance instruction for a rug like this. Drag a chair, drop a fork, knock over the wine — this construction tolerates all three.

How it looks

Blue is a forgiving colour in a rug — it reads calm, it works in coastal rooms, and it sits beautifully against the white walls common in Australian builds. The pattern reads cleanly from across the room and only reveals its detail close up. Layered with a leather chair, a brass floor lamp, and a stack of books, the rug holds its end of the conversation without forcing it.

On sizing

Most of our customers go a size larger than their first instinct. Our Rug Size Guide explains why.

If you want a rug that looks like it has always lived there, this is the one.

FAQs

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

Will the colour look the same as the website photo?

Very close, but never identical — every screen renders colour slightly differently, and the rug itself will read warmer or cooler depending on the light in your room. If you want certainty, message us and we'll send additional photos taken in natural light.

Can I use this with underfloor heating?

Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.

Can I steam clean this rug?

Yes, but a hose is usually faster and just as effective.

Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?

There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
