Reflecting the youngest of trends, this collection introduces a hip, new look in designs of a new soft touch polypropylene pile. This unique, high quality heat set yarn results in a soft and dense feel. With a 45mm pile height and featuring soft, and maintenance is easy as the pile won't shed like woolen shag rugs. Make this rug the new conversation point in your home or office!
Leona Light Grey sits firmly in the considered, wear-it-for-years half of our range.
How it's made
The short version: Made in Turkey. We've worked with Turkish mills for decades — the country's heritage in rugs runs deep, and the power-loom programmes are some of the most consistent in the world. We sell a lot of polypropylene because it does the one thing most Australian families ask of a rug: survive children, dogs, and the occasional glass of red without complaint. With a 45mm pile, this is deep-shag territory — it will feel like sand between your toes, in the best way. The back of the rug shows the construction clearly — close, even stitching, no slack spots, no thin patches.
Living with it
In practice, it is a comfortable fit in a Mornington Peninsula holiday house where the rug rotates between living rooms with the seasons — exactly the kind of space most of our customers are decorating. Spot-clean with mild detergent and cool water. Avoid harsh chemicals — they're not needed and can damage the dye. If you have a Roomba or similar, the pile here is short enough that it will get a proper clean without snagging.
On the design
Grey rugs sit quietly in a room and let the rest of the space do the talking — it's why they outsell almost everything else we carry. Up close, the construction details emerge; from across the room, the rug reads as a single restrained colour field. It plays nicely with a low timber coffee table, a linen sofa, and the kind of considered clutter most lived-in rooms accumulate.
On sizing
A 200x290cm covers most three-seater living rooms; a 240x330cm suits the larger open-plan layouts that have become common in new Australian builds. Our Rug Size Guide shows you which fits.
If your existing pieces are quiet, Leona Light Grey will let them stay that way.
Questions we get asked
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
Will the pattern repeat be obvious?
Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
Is the back of the rug latex-coated?
The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
