The subtle design of the Chester collection features an eclectic blend of dappled blue, green and grey shading, which is both cool and inviting. Although ornamental the marbled synthesis of color will never overpower complementary decor elements, making this range perfect for any living space. Great with wood, gorgeous over tiles, and available in a variety of sizes, the Chester rug is simple to clean and will remain attractive for years to come. FEATURES:
We don't keep every rug we get offered, and Chester Grey earns its place for a particular reason.
Living with it
In a real Australian room, picture limestone tiles and putty-painted walls — that is the kind of room this rug is at home in. Vacuum, blot, and live with it. That is genuinely the entire maintenance instruction for a rug like this. Build the room around it. It will hold the centre and stay quiet while the rest of the space changes around it.
On the design
Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. There's a reason grey has been the default neutral of the last decade — it forgives, it cools, and it lets coloured furniture and art read clearly above it. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. The longer you sit in a room with this rug, the less you notice it — which is exactly what a good rug is meant to do.
What's under the surface
Underneath the look, Belgian-made with European precision. Belgian weaving has a reputation for precision, and you can see it in the way the pattern sits on the surface of this rug. Modern polypropylene is a long way from the scratchy synthetic of twenty years ago. Soft underfoot, dense in the weave, and entirely washable. The 9mm pile sits in the sweet spot for everyday living — soft enough to feel good underfoot, short enough that the vacuum gets right to the base. The yarn count is dense enough that the pattern reads sharply without losing softness underfoot.
On sizing
A 200x290cm covers most three-seater living rooms; a 240x330cm suits the larger open-plan layouts that have become common in new Australian builds. Our Rug Size Guide shows you which fits.
Chester Grey is for you if your brief is calm, considered, and easy to live with.
Common questions
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
Does this rug ship rolled or folded?
Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Does it work with a robot vacuum?
Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.
