Chester Earth is the answer for the customer who wants a rug that looks at home from day one.
How it handles real life
In a typical Australian living room — dark hardwood floors, limewashed walls — it sits comfortably without competing for attention. Cleaning protocol is intentionally simple: blot fresh spills, vacuum weekly, get a professional clean every few years if it sees heavy use. Once you have it down, the rug is one of the lowest-maintenance pieces of furniture you will ever buy.
How it looks
What is happening at the surface is straightforward. Grey rugs sit quietly in a room and let the rest of the space do the talking — it's why they outsell almost everything else we carry. Visually, the rug is doing the work of a quiet anchor — not a pattern statement, not a punctuation mark, simply a calm plane underfoot. From above, the surface has a quiet visual rhythm — close up, the construction details start to show.
How it's made
At a glance: Woven in Belgium. Belgium's Wilton looms are some of the most exacting in the world — the colour separation and pattern definition you get from them is hard to match elsewhere. What polypropylene gives up in heritage feel it more than makes back in colourfastness and easy upkeep. At 9mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. The yarn count is dense enough that the pattern reads sharply without losing softness underfoot.
On sizing
Most of our customers go a size larger than their first instinct. Our Rug Size Guide explains why.
If you want a rug that quietly carries its weight for years, Chester Earth is the one to consider.
Questions we get asked
Will this rug shed?
No, not in the meaningful sense. Synthetic pile is heat-set rather than spun from short staple fibres, so you may see a small amount of fibre in the first week and very little after that.
Does this rug ship rolled or folded?
Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
How long does delivery take to my address?
Most metro orders arrive within 3–7 business days. Regional and remote addresses can take a little longer. We'll send tracking the moment your rug leaves the warehouse.
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Does it work with a robot vacuum?
Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.
