The Novaro Sand Silk is the quiet achiever of the collection — a traditional medallion design in warm sand and ivory silk tones that works in virtually any interior and requires the least compromise of any rug in the range. The pale, neutral palette amplifies light, the traditional pattern adds character without demanding attention, and the machine washable construction removes every practical concern.
Among the rugs we carry, Novaro Sand Silk Traditional is one of the easiest to recommend.
How it's made
The short version: Produced in Turkey. We've worked with Turkish mills for decades — the country's heritage in rugs runs deep, and the power-loom programmes are some of the most consistent in the world. Polyester yarns hold dye exceptionally well, which is why the colours on this piece look as rich as they do. Look at the underside and you can see how dense the weave actually is — it is the part of the rug that does the real work.
Day-to-day
In practice, among the rooms our customers describe to us, under the dining table of a Newtown terrace where space is tight and the rug has to do double duty is the most common context for a piece like this. Polyester takes well to spot-cleaning — a damp cloth, cool water, and mild detergent will handle most everyday spills. Rolling vacuum, ride-on toys, the cat — none of it bothers the surface in any way you will notice.
About the look
Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. Cream-based rugs sit comfortably in almost any palette — they brighten without bleaching the room out. The pattern reads cleanly from across the room and only reveals its detail close up. Walk past it daily and you stop noticing it consciously — which is the highest compliment a quiet rug can earn.
Which size?
A 200x290cm covers most three-seater living rooms; a 240x330cm suits the larger open-plan layouts that have become common in new Australian builds. Our Rug Size Guide shows you which fits.
Novaro Sand Silk Traditional is one of those buys you stop noticing in the best possible way — it just works.
Questions we get asked
Does this rug ship rolled or folded?
Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
Can I cut the rug to size?
We don't recommend cutting a finished rug — the edges are bound and the construction relies on that binding to stay intact. If you need a custom size, message us and we'll see what's possible.
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Will it cope with kids and pets?
Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.
