The Novaro Alexandra brings the timeless elegance of a traditional medallion rug to a modern Australian home — and makes it genuinely practical in the process. The classic centre medallion design and intricate border work suit formal living rooms and dining areas beautifully, while the machine washable construction means real life doesn't have to be kept at arm's length.
Among the Turkish pieces in our range, Novaro Alexandra Traditional sits in the well-balanced middle — not the cheapest, not the most expensive, simply the most-bought.
How it looks
A grey-toned rug is the easiest way to anchor a room without committing to a strong palette. Up close you can see how the dye sits in the fibre — saturated, even, with none of the patchiness of a cheaper construction. Up close, you can see how the colour shifts slightly across the pile — that subtle variation is what stops the surface looking printed.
Built and finished
The short version: Turkish-made. We've worked with Turkish mills for decades — the country's heritage in rugs runs deep, and the power-loom programmes are some of the most consistent in the world. Polyester yarns hold dye exceptionally well, which is why the colours on this piece look as rich as they do. Density is what matters with a piece like this — it is what gives the rug its longevity.
Practical notes
In a typical Australian living room — white-washed timber, high white walls with skirting in cream — it sits comfortably without competing for attention. Polyester takes well to spot-cleaning — a damp cloth, cool water, and mild detergent will handle most everyday spills. Vacuum once a week, spot-treat the inevitable accidents, and the rug does not ask for anything else.
Which size?
We carry this in a few sizes — a 160x230cm sits well under a coffee table, a 200x290cm anchors a standard three-piece lounge, and the 240x330cm extends well past a queen bed. See our Rug Size Guide for the full layout breakdown.
Novaro Alexandra Traditional ends up in a lot of finished rooms because it earns its place without insisting on it.
Questions we get asked
Will the pattern repeat be obvious?
Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
Does this rug ship rolled or folded?
Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.
