Ultra soft-touch rugs, available in a spectrum of trendy designs and fashion colours, the Chiapas collection, which is woven from Microfiber yarn, is sure to elevate any room out of the ordinary. These rugs with their lustrous sheen and non-shedding low pile construction, are the perfect accessory for every type of interior, but work particularly well in bedrooms and living-spaces. Owning a durable, hard-wearing Chiapas, is not only a pleasure, their soft texture will have you feeling as if you're walking on clouds.

Chiapas Berber Grey is one of the rugs we recommend to customers who have already bought a wool piece elsewhere and want something more practical for a high-traffic room.

On the design

Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. Grey rugs sit quietly in a room and let the rest of the space do the talking — it's why they outsell almost everything else we carry. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. Layered with a leather chair, a brass floor lamp, and a stack of books, the rug holds its end of the conversation without forcing it.

How it's made

Woven in Belgium. Belgian weaving has a reputation for precision, and you can see it in the way the pattern sits on the surface of this rug. The yarn here is solution-dyed polypropylene — the colour goes through the fibre rather than sitting on it, so a fade only happens after years in direct sun. The pile height is 15mm — substantial enough to feel luxurious without crossing into shaggy territory. The yarn count is dense enough that the pattern reads sharply without losing softness underfoot.

Day-to-day

It pairs especially well with engineered oak in a natural finish and raw plaster finishes. Vacuum, blot, and live with it. That is genuinely the entire maintenance instruction for a rug like this. Pet hair vacuums out cleanly — the fibre does not hold dander the way a natural pile sometimes can. Drag a chair, drop a fork, knock over the wine — this construction tolerates all three.

Picking the right size

A 200x290cm covers most three-seater living rooms; a 240x330cm suits the larger open-plan layouts that have become common in new Australian builds. Our Rug Size Guide shows you which fits.

A confident, low-key choice — that is the short version of why we recommend Chiapas Berber Grey.

Common questions

Will the rug fade in direct sun?

Some fade is possible if a rug sits in direct, unfiltered sun day after day — that's true of any rug. The dyes used here are UV-stabilised and hold up well to the conditions in most Australian rooms.

Can I return it if it isn't right?

Yes — we offer a clear returns window because we know a rug needs to be seen in the actual room. The details are on our returns page, and we'll talk you through it if anything is unclear.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

Will the colour look the same as the website photo?

Very close, but never identical — every screen renders colour slightly differently, and the rug itself will read warmer or cooler depending on the light in your room. If you want certainty, message us and we'll send additional photos taken in natural light.

Will the pattern repeat be obvious?

Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
