Owning a durable, hard-wearing Chiapas, is not only a pleasure, their soft texture will have you feeling as if you're walking on clouds.
There is nothing showy about Chiapas Berber Silver, and that is precisely the point.
On colour
Worth a moment on the look of it. Silver rugs sit between grey and ivory and tend to read either way depending on the light through the day. Up close, the construction details emerge; from across the room, the rug reads as a single restrained colour field. Visually, this is the kind of rug that does not introduce a new design statement — it ties the existing ones together.
Construction
At a glance: Made in Belgium on Wilton looms. Belgium's Wilton looms are some of the most exacting in the world — the colour separation and pattern definition you get from them is hard to match elsewhere. The yarn here is solution-dyed polypropylene — the colour goes through the fibre rather than sitting on it, so a fade only happens after years in direct sun. At 15mm, the pile is on the plusher side of our range — it has the kind of give that makes a bedroom rug worth waking up to. The back of the rug shows the construction clearly — close, even stitching, no slack spots, no thin patches.
Sizing
If this is going under a dining table, measure the table and add at least 60cm on each side so the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. The Rug Size Guide walks through the details.
Living with it
In practice, it is a comfortable fit in Federation cottages and weatherboard renovations where warm timber floors are the starting point — exactly the kind of space most of our customers are decorating. Cleaning protocol is intentionally simple: blot fresh spills, vacuum weekly, get a professional clean every few years if it sees heavy use. Rug pad underneath on a hard floor — that is the one accessory we would not skip.
If the rest of your room is settled, Chiapas Berber Silver will not unsettle it.
FAQs
Will it sit flat once unrolled?
Almost always within 24–48 hours. If you see any waves from the rolled packaging, lay the rug pile-up in the room and let it relax overnight — gravity does the rest. For stubborn corners, rolling the rug briefly in the opposite direction usually does it.
Can I use this with underfloor heating?
Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.
How thick is the rug overall?
The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.
Will the pattern repeat be obvious?
Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
Will the colour look the same as the website photo?
Very close, but never identical — every screen renders colour slightly differently, and the rug itself will read warmer or cooler depending on the light in your room. If you want certainty, message us and we'll send additional photos taken in natural light.
