Chiapas Berber Beige has the quiet self-confidence of a well-made object — no styling tricks, no marketing veneer.

Day-to-day

In practice, among the rooms our customers describe to us, in a Fitzroy terrace where the rug is the warm element in an otherwise cool, industrial room is the most common context for a piece like this. Wipe spills with a damp cloth, vacuum on a regular setting, and rotate the rug end-to-end once a year. Nothing else is required. Lay it once and forget it is there. That is the right frame of mind for a piece like this.

On the design

Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. Beige has come a long way from the 1990s — modern beige rugs carry a warm, taupe-leaning tone that reads sophisticated rather than dated. There is depth to the surface — the weave changes height subtly across the pattern, which is what gives the rug its tactile quality. The longer you sit in a room with this rug, the less you notice it — which is exactly what a good rug is meant to do.

How it's made

The short version: Belgian Wilton-woven. Belgian mills are the benchmark for machine-made design definition. The look is crisper than what you'd get from most other origins. Density and twist are what separate a good polypropylene rug from a poor one — both have been done properly here. At 15mm, the pile is on the plusher side of our range — it has the kind of give that makes a bedroom rug worth waking up to. The back of the rug shows the construction clearly — close, even stitching, no slack spots, no thin patches.

On sizing

For sizing, the short version is: front legs of the sofa should sit on the rug. For the long version, see our Rug Size Guide.

Questions we get asked

Can I return it if it isn't right?

Yes — we offer a clear returns window because we know a rug needs to be seen in the actual room. The details are on our returns page, and we'll talk you through it if anything is unclear.

Can I cut the rug to size?

We don't recommend cutting a finished rug — the edges are bound and the construction relies on that binding to stay intact. If you need a custom size, message us and we'll see what's possible.

Will the pattern repeat be obvious?

Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.

Will this rug shed?

No, not in the meaningful sense. Synthetic pile is heat-set rather than spun from short staple fibres, so you may see a small amount of fibre in the first week and very little after that.

Does this rug ship rolled or folded?

Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
