Size

Pick Lyon Wool Grey up at the showroom and the weight in your hand is the first signal of how it is constructed.

How it looks

Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. There's a reason grey has been the default neutral of the last decade — it forgives, it cools, and it lets coloured furniture and art read clearly above it. The pattern reads cleanly from across the room and only reveals its detail close up. We have laid this in rooms with bold artwork above and minimal furniture, and it sits comfortably in both.

How it's made

Underneath the look, made in India by skilled artisans. Hand-weaving in India still happens at village scale, and the irregularities you'll feel in the pile are part of what makes a hand-loomed rug feel different from a machine-made one. A wool rug behaves differently from a synthetic one. It sheds lightly for the first few months (that's normal), then settles into a piece you'll keep for decades. The pile is 10mm, which is what we'd call a true everyday pile — the kind of weight you want under a coffee table or a dining setting. Run your hand across the surface and the pile feels even from corner to corner — that consistency is what separates a well-made rug from a budget one.

Practical notes

In a real Australian room, we see this style most often in Hamptons-inspired interiors that lean on a soft, neutral palette. Wool wants gentler care than a synthetic. Vacuum without a beater bar where possible, blot spills immediately, and get any serious staining professionally cleaned rather than scrubbing. We have customers who have lived with the same rug for the better part of a decade. It still looks intentional.

Sizing

Sizes range across our usual run — if you're unsure which to pick, our Rug Size Guide walks through the common Australian room layouts.

If your existing pieces are quiet, Lyon Wool Grey will let them stay that way.

Things customers ask

Will it cope with kids and pets?

Yes — wool is naturally stain-resistant and has been used in family homes for centuries. The fibre tolerates real life better than people often expect.

How long does delivery take to my address?

Most metro orders arrive within 3–7 business days. Regional and remote addresses can take a little longer. We'll send tracking the moment your rug leaves the warehouse.

How thick is the rug overall?

The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.

Does it work with a robot vacuum?

Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.

Is the back of the rug latex-coated?

The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.
