Our new exclusive Millard range are both focused on Contemporary & Modern tailored homes. Design and colours are both muted and soft, so if you are looking to give a hint of texture or a dash of colour, this could be just the thing to bring everything together.
Spend a minute with Millard Beige Turquoise and you start to understand why we kept it through the last range review.
How it looks
What is happening at the surface is straightforward. There's a reason grey has been the default neutral of the last decade — it forgives, it cools, and it lets coloured furniture and art read clearly above it. Look at the surface in different light through the day and the rug picks up subtle variations the photo doesn't quite catch. Up close, you can see how the colour shifts slightly across the pile — that subtle variation is what stops the surface looking printed.
About the make
Underneath the look, from Turkey's long power-loom tradition. The Turkish weaving industry has refined power-loom production to a point where the result is genuinely close to the look of a traditionally woven rug. Polypropylene doesn't fade in our harsh Australian sun the way some natural fibres do, and it's the reason we trust it in living rooms with northern light. The pile height is 18mm — substantial enough to feel luxurious without crossing into shaggy territory. Build quality holds up to close inspection — there are no shortcuts in the weave or the finish.
Day-to-day
In practice, this style sits well over Tasmanian oak floorboards, particularly when the rest of the room runs to pale grey walls. For wine, blood, or any pigmented spill, blot quickly with cold water and a mild detergent — the colour will lift before it has time to bond. Pet hair vacuums out cleanly — the fibre does not hold dander the way a natural pile sometimes can. Vacuum once a week, spot-treat the inevitable accidents, and the rug does not ask for anything else.
On sizing
We carry this in a few sizes — a 160x230cm sits well under a coffee table, a 200x290cm anchors a standard three-piece lounge, and the 240x330cm extends well past a queen bed. See our Rug Size Guide for the full layout breakdown.
Millard Beige Turquoise is the kind of buy you don't second-guess a year later.
Questions we get asked
Does it work with a robot vacuum?
Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.
How do I get rid of a stain?
Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
Can I use this with underfloor heating?
Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.
Will this rug shed?
No, not in the meaningful sense. Synthetic pile is heat-set rather than spun from short staple fibres, so you may see a small amount of fibre in the first week and very little after that.
Will it cope with kids and pets?
Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.
