Confident geometric designs characterize the charismatic Palermo range of rugs. Densely piled, these luxuriously textured, shaggy rugs add charm and an element of class to any setting. Smooth fibers generate a subtle gleam, which captures and scatters light, without dominating the surrounding decor. Quiet shades of grey and white blend marvelously well with a variety of interiors. Yet, despite their attractiveness these versatile floor coverings are easy to maintain. A valuable addition to your home, Palermo rugs, will offset your space to the best of its advantage, and modernize your lifestyle with their no-fuss easy-care attitude.
Palermo Shaggy Grey fits the brief for what we think of as a 'no-regrets' rug — practical, well-made, and quiet enough to live with for years.
On colour
The colour story matters here. Grey rugs sit quietly in a room and let the rest of the space do the talking — it's why they outsell almost everything else we carry. The pattern reads cleanly from across the room and only reveals its detail close up. Stand in the doorway and the rug barely registers; sit on the floor and the texture and pile depth come forward.
About the make
In one line: Made in Turkey. The Turkish weaving industry has refined power-loom production to a point where the result is genuinely close to the look of a traditionally woven rug. Polypropylene does not hold odour the way wool can, which matters in a home with pets or open-plan cooking. A 25mm pile reads as genuinely luxurious — we recommend it for bedrooms and formal lounges rather than high-traffic dining areas. Pile twist and density together are what give this piece the longevity that the warranty implies.
Picking the right size
Have a tape measure handy before you commit — our Rug Size Guide has the layouts most of our customers end up choosing.
Living with it
Day to day, picture limestone tiles and limewashed walls — that is the kind of room this rug is at home in. It will not stain the way a wool or cotton rug can — wine, juice, and pet accidents lift with a damp cloth if you get to them within a reasonable window. It handles a Labrador, a Cavoodle, or two of each. We have heard variations on that brief many times. Rolling vacuum, ride-on toys, the cat — none of it bothers the surface in any way you will notice.
Order Palermo Shaggy Grey if your room is ready for something quietly grown-up at floor level.
Questions we get asked
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
How do I get rid of a stain?
Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
Is the back of the rug latex-coated?
The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.
