Presenting our latest creation, Ragusa—a contemporary rug that embodies both style and functionality. What sets Ragusa apart is its unique short pile and high-low texture, a combination that adds a sense of depth and dimension to the design. This texture not only enhances the visual appeal of the rug but also creates an engaging tactile experience, making it a true delight to touch and feel.

Ragusa Renzi is one of the rugs we recommend to customers who have already bought a wool piece elsewhere and want something more practical for a high-traffic room.

Colour and pattern

The colour story matters here. A grey-toned rug is the easiest way to anchor a room without committing to a strong palette. The motif is restrained enough to sit under almost any furniture without competing. Layered with a leather chair, a brass floor lamp, and a stack of books, the rug holds its end of the conversation without forcing it.

Built and finished

At a glance: Turkish-made. The Turkish weaving industry has refined power-loom production to a point where the result is genuinely close to the look of a traditionally woven rug. Polyester yarns hold dye exceptionally well, which is why the colours on this piece look as rich as they do. A 11mm pile feels soft on bare feet but doesn't trap dust the way a longer pile can. The result is a rug that feels considered without crossing into precious territory.

Practical notes

Picture polished concrete floors and limewashed walls — that is the kind of room this rug is at home in. For shaggy polyester piles, vacuum on a higher setting (or with the beater bar off) and shake the rug out periodically. Lay it once and forget it is there. That is the right frame of mind for a piece like this.

Picking the right size

If you are between sizes, we almost always recommend sizing up. Our Rug Size Guide has the room-by-room measurements we use ourselves.

If you have been circling rugs for weeks, Ragusa Renzi is a sensible place to stop.

Questions we get asked

Can I return it if it isn't right?

Yes — we offer a clear returns window because we know a rug needs to be seen in the actual room. The details are on our returns page, and we'll talk you through it if anything is unclear.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

Is the back of the rug latex-coated?

The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.

Will the rug fade in direct sun?

Some fade is possible if a rug sits in direct, unfiltered sun day after day — that's true of any rug. The dyes used here are UV-stabilised and hold up well to the conditions in most Australian rooms.

Will it cope with kids and pets?

Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.
