Size

Roman is a rug collection that offers both style and practicality. Featuring a variety of designs with non-distinct all-over patterns in grey, terracotta, blue, and brown tones, these rugs are versatile and blend seamlessly with a variety of decor styles.

What our family likes about Roman Oceanic is the lack of theatre — it is what it looks like, and it does what it should.

Living with it

In practice, we see this style most often in a Fitzroy terrace where the rug is the warm element in an otherwise cool, industrial room. The synthetic fibre tolerates household cleaners better than wool, but in our experience nothing more aggressive than cool soapy water is ever necessary. Drag a chair, drop a fork, knock over the wine — this construction tolerates all three.

How it looks

Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. Blue-toned rugs lift a room without dominating it. They pair especially well with brass, oak, and a lot of natural light. The motif is restrained enough to sit under almost any furniture without competing. The longer you sit in a room with this rug, the less you notice it — which is exactly what a good rug is meant to do.

Construction

In one line: Produced in Turkey. Turkey remains the place where heritage design and modern weaving meet most comfortably — you get the look of a hand-knotted rug at a fraction of the cost. Modern polypropylene is a long way from the scratchy synthetic of twenty years ago. Soft underfoot, dense in the weave, and entirely washable. Run your hand across the surface and the pile feels even from corner to corner — that consistency is what separates a well-made rug from a budget one.

Which size?

Most of our customers go a size larger than their first instinct. Our Rug Size Guide explains why.

If your brief is durable, quiet, and warmly familiar, this is the rug we'd put forward.

Questions we get asked

Can I use this with underfloor heating?

Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

How do I get rid of a stain?

Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.

How thick is the rug overall?

The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.

Does it work with a robot vacuum?

Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.
