Contemporary Cove Carpe reads as a quiet, considered piece rather than a statement.

On colour

Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. We sell more cream rugs than any other colour. They suit the way most Australians live: warm-neutral walls, pale timbers, lots of natural light. Design-wise, the surface is restrained enough to layer with strong artwork or strong upholstery without competing. The design is balanced enough to centre a coffee table and quiet enough to let a strong artwork dominate above it.

Built and finished

Underneath the look, Belgian-made with European precision. Belgian mills are the benchmark for machine-made design definition. The look is crisper than what you'd get from most other origins. Polypropylene doesn't fade in our harsh Australian sun the way some natural fibres do, and it's the reason we trust it in living rooms with northern light. The 15mm pile gives this rug genuine softness underfoot — particularly good for a bedroom or a sitting room you actually want to sit on the floor in. The back of the rug shows the construction clearly — close, even stitching, no slack spots, no thin patches.

Day-to-day

In practice, it earns its keep in any room that has warm timber floors as a starting point. Synthetic pile means you can keep on top of it without specialist care — a regular vacuum and the occasional damp wipe is the entire maintenance routine. Lay it once and forget it is there. That is the right frame of mind for a piece like this.

Picking the right size

For sizing, the short version is: front legs of the sofa should sit on the rug. For the long version, see our Rug Size Guide.

If the room has earned a rug like Contemporary Cove Carpe, the rest of the decisions tend to follow.

Questions we get asked

Does it work with a robot vacuum?

Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.

Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?

There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

Can I steam clean this rug?

Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.

Can I use this with underfloor heating?

Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.
