Contemporary Cove Kimberlite Runner reads more confidently in person than in any photograph we have managed to take of it.
About the look
Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. Blue is a forgiving colour in a rug — it reads calm, it works in coastal rooms, and it sits beautifully against the white walls common in Australian builds. There is enough texture in the weave to keep the surface visually interesting without breaking the calm of the palette. Layered with a leather chair, a brass floor lamp, and a stack of books, the rug holds its end of the conversation without forcing it.
How it handles real life
Among the rooms our customers describe to us, in a Tweed Heads beach house where the climate calls for something that handles humidity without complaint is the most common context for a piece like this. If a spill dries before you get to it, dampen the area with cool water, work the cloth from the outside in, and the dried residue lifts back out. It tolerates open doors, indoor-outdoor traffic, and the dust that an Australian summer drags in across a polished concrete floor.
About the make
Made in Belgium on Wilton looms. Belgian mills are the benchmark for machine-made design definition. The look is crisper than what you'd get from most other origins. The fibre is synthetic, but the modern poly yarns we work with feel close to soft wool underfoot and clean up far more easily. This is a 15mm pile — soft, considered, with enough density to spring back from foot traffic without flattening. Pile twist and density together are what give this piece the longevity that the warranty implies.
Picking the right size
A runner needs to leave a hand's-width of floor visible at each end of the hallway — see our Rug Size Guide for the room-by-room guidance.
Add Contemporary Cove Kimberlite Runner to a room that has good bones and let it sit quietly underneath everything else.
FAQs
Is the back of the rug latex-coated?
The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.
Will the rug fade in direct sun?
Some fade is possible if a rug sits in direct, unfiltered sun day after day — that's true of any rug. The dyes used here are UV-stabilised and hold up well to the conditions in most Australian rooms.
Will the pattern repeat be obvious?
Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
Will it sit flat once unrolled?
Almost always within 24–48 hours. If you see any waves from the rolled packaging, lay the rug pile-up in the room and let it relax overnight — gravity does the rest. For stubborn corners, rolling the rug briefly in the opposite direction usually does it.
Does this rug ship rolled or folded?
Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
