Customers describe Contemporary Cove more often by how it feels in the room than by how it looks in a catalogue.

On colour

The colour story matters here. Multi-colour rugs ask less of the rest of the room than people assume — they bring all the colour, so your walls and furniture can stay quiet. The motif is restrained enough to sit under almost any furniture without competing. Photographs flatten the surface; in person, the weave reads with more dimension than any catalogue image can convey.

Built and finished

In one line: Woven in Belgium. Belgian weaving has a reputation for precision, and you can see it in the way the pattern sits on the surface of this rug. Polypropylene is the workhorse fibre of modern rugs — it doesn't absorb spills, it doesn't hold dust, and it bounces back from foot traffic faster than wool. At 15mm, the pile is on the plusher side of our range — it has the kind of give that makes a bedroom rug worth waking up to. Density is what matters with a piece like this — it is what gives the rug its longevity.

Practical notes

This style sits well over Tasmanian oak floorboards, particularly when the rest of the room runs to raw plaster finishes. The synthetic fibre tolerates household cleaners better than wool, but in our experience nothing more aggressive than cool soapy water is ever necessary. Build the room around it. It will hold the centre and stay quiet while the rest of the space changes around it.

On sizing

Most of our customers go a size larger than their first instinct. Our Rug Size Guide explains why.

If your existing pieces are quiet, Contemporary Cove will let them stay that way.

Questions we get asked

Can I put a rug pad underneath?

Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

Does it work with a robot vacuum?

Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.

Will it cope with kids and pets?

Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.

Do you offer samples?

We don't typically send physical samples — most of our customers find the photos and our written notes get them close enough. If you want extra photos in natural light, message us and we'll send them through.
