Pull Contemporary Cove out of its wrapping in your living room and the first thing that registers is the weight of it.

Colour and pattern

Worth a moment on the look of it. Brown rugs ground a room with quiet weight — they work especially well under a leather sofa or a heavy timber dining table. The pattern reads as quietly contemporary rather than fashionable — the kind of design that doesn't date in a hurry. In strong afternoon light the tones warm noticeably — in cooler southern light, the palette reads slightly more grounded.

Built and finished

The short version: Belgian-made with European precision. Belgian weaving has a reputation for precision, and you can see it in the way the pattern sits on the surface of this rug. The yarn here is solution-dyed polypropylene — the colour goes through the fibre rather than sitting on it, so a fade only happens after years in direct sun. At 15mm, the pile is on the plusher side of our range — it has the kind of give that makes a bedroom rug worth waking up to. Construction-wise, this is built to look the same six months in as the day it arrived.

On sizing

A 200x290cm covers most three-seater living rooms; a 240x330cm suits the larger open-plan layouts that have become common in new Australian builds. Our Rug Size Guide shows you which fits.

How it handles real life

This style sits well over engineered oak in a natural finish, particularly when the rest of the room runs to raw plaster finishes. Cleaning protocol is intentionally simple: blot fresh spills, vacuum weekly, get a professional clean every few years if it sees heavy use. Once you have it down, the rug is one of the lowest-maintenance pieces of furniture you will ever buy.

If your brief is durable, quiet, and warmly familiar, this is the rug we'd put forward.

Questions we get asked

Does it work with a robot vacuum?

Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.

How do I get rid of a stain?

Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.

Will the rug fade in direct sun?

Some fade is possible if a rug sits in direct, unfiltered sun day after day — that's true of any rug. The dyes used here are UV-stabilised and hold up well to the conditions in most Australian rooms.

Can I put a rug pad underneath?

Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.

How thick is the rug overall?

The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.
