What's under the surface
Underneath the look, Turkish-made. Turkey has been the centre of rug-making for centuries, and the power-loom tradition that came out of Anatolia in the late 20th century is what makes a piece like this possible at a sensible price. Modern polypropylene is a long way from the scratchy synthetic of twenty years ago. Soft underfoot, dense in the weave, and entirely washable. The pile is 11mm, which is what we'd call a true everyday pile — the kind of weight you want under a coffee table or a dining setting. Selvedges are finished cleanly so the rug sits flush against itself without curling at the edges.
About the look
The colour story matters here. We recommend charcoal when a room has too much pale flooring and not enough visual weight at floor level. Visually, the rug is doing the work of a quiet anchor — not a pattern statement, not a punctuation mark, simply a calm plane underfoot. Stand in the doorway and the rug barely registers; sit on the floor and the texture and pile depth come forward.
Living with it

Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Will it cope with kids and pets?
Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Can I return it if it isn't right?
