Textured relief and compact weaving, give our Imperial collection, both a sense and look of opulence. Deferentially constructed to form flat and raised pile areas, these rugs project a tactile character all of their own. Subtle patterns, with lustrous sheen in both abstract and vintage designs make these rugs a suitable pairing for most spaces, be they modern or traditional. Woven from a combination of 55% Polyester and 45% Polypropylene, with raised sections at an 11mm pile height, these timeless pieces, which capture and radiate light, will be the talking point of your decor.

The reason Imperial Black Cascade has stayed in our catalogue for several seasons is straightforward: it sells consistently and comes back rarely.

On colour

The colour story matters here. A grey-toned rug is the easiest way to anchor a room without committing to a strong palette. The pattern reads cleanly from across the room and only reveals its detail close up. Up close, you can see how the colour shifts slightly across the pile — that subtle variation is what stops the surface looking printed.

Living with it

This style sits well over engineered oak in a natural finish, particularly when the rest of the room runs to high white walls with skirting in cream. It will not stain the way a wool or cotton rug can — wine, juice, and pet accidents lift with a damp cloth if you get to them within a reasonable window. It holds its shape under a heavy sofa and shrugs off the small dents that lighter constructions can't recover from.

Construction

In one line: Woven in Belgium. Belgian weaving has a reputation for precision, and you can see it in the way the pattern sits on the surface of this rug. We sell a lot of polypropylene because it does the one thing most Australian families ask of a rug: survive children, dogs, and the occasional glass of red without complaint. At 11mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. The construction is built to take the daily compression of foot traffic without flattening through the centre.

Sizing

If this is going under a dining table, measure the table and add at least 60cm on each side so the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. The Rug Size Guide walks through the details.

Add Imperial Black Cascade to a room that has good bones and let it sit quietly underneath everything else.

Questions we get asked

Will this rug shed?

No, not in the meaningful sense. Synthetic pile is heat-set rather than spun from short staple fibres, so you may see a small amount of fibre in the first week and very little after that.

How do I get rid of a stain?

Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.

Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?

There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.

Can I put a rug pad underneath?

Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.

Will the pattern repeat be obvious?

Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
