What our family likes about Alice Red is the lack of theatre — it is what it looks like, and it does what it should.
About the make
Underneath the look, produced in Turkey. Turkey remains the place where heritage design and modern weaving meet most comfortably — you get the look of a hand-knotted rug at a fraction of the cost. We sell a lot of polypropylene because it does the one thing most Australian families ask of a rug: survive children, dogs, and the occasional glass of red without complaint. Construction-wise, this is built to look the same six months in as the day it arrived.
How it handles real life
In any room with polished concrete floors, this rug adds the visual weight the floor needs to feel finished. A handheld vacuum and a damp cloth handle ninety percent of what you will need to do to keep this rug looking right. We sell more of this style to families with school-age children than to any other group, which says something about how it lives.
On colour
Worth a moment on the look of it. Cream-based rugs sit comfortably in almost any palette — they brighten without bleaching the room out. The medallion pattern at the centre is a clear nod to traditional rug-weaving — softened here so it reads quietly rather than ornate. Layered with a leather chair, a brass floor lamp, and a stack of books, the rug holds its end of the conversation without forcing it.
Which size?
Most of our customers go a size larger than their first instinct. Our Rug Size Guide explains why.
If you've been waiting for the rug that just feels right, this is one we'd line up first.
Common questions
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Will the rug fade in direct sun?
Some fade is possible if a rug sits in direct, unfiltered sun day after day — that's true of any rug. The dyes used here are UV-stabilised and hold up well to the conditions in most Australian rooms.
Will it sit flat once unrolled?
Almost always within 24–48 hours. If you see any waves from the rolled packaging, lay the rug pile-up in the room and let it relax overnight — gravity does the rest. For stubborn corners, rolling the rug briefly in the opposite direction usually does it.
How do I get rid of a stain?
Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.
