Francis Blue Jasper has the quiet self-confidence of a well-made object — no styling tricks, no marketing veneer.

Practical notes

It earns its keep in any room that has blackbutt floorboards as a starting point. The synthetic fibre tolerates household cleaners better than wool, but in our experience nothing more aggressive than cool soapy water is ever necessary. Pet-friendly in the most useful sense: claws won't catch the way they do on a looped pile, and the surface vacuums cleanly. We have laid one of these under our own dining table for several years; it still reads as new.

On the design

What is happening at the surface is straightforward. Blue is a forgiving colour in a rug — it reads calm, it works in coastal rooms, and it sits beautifully against the white walls common in Australian builds. The motif is restrained enough to sit under almost any furniture without competing. Walk past it daily and you stop noticing it consciously — which is the highest compliment a quiet rug can earn.

What's under the surface

Underneath the look, Belgian Wilton-woven. Belgian mills are the benchmark for machine-made design definition. The look is crisper than what you'd get from most other origins. Polypropylene is a thermoplastic, which means stains do not bond to the fibre the way they would with a natural staple. At 12mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. The back of the rug shows the construction clearly — close, even stitching, no slack spots, no thin patches.

Have a tape measure handy before you commit — our Rug Size Guide has the layouts most of our customers end up choosing.

Reliable, calm, hard-wearing — three words that describe Francis Blue Jasper fairly.

Things customers ask

Will the colour look the same as the website photo?

Very close, but never identical — every screen renders colour slightly differently, and the rug itself will read warmer or cooler depending on the light in your room. If you want certainty, message us and we'll send additional photos taken in natural light.

How do I get rid of a stain?

Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.

Can I steam clean this rug?

Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?

There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
