Francis Blue Kyanite fits the brief for what we think of as a 'no-regrets' rug — practical, well-made, and quiet enough to live with for years.
How it's made
Underneath the look, Belgian-woven. Belgian weaving has a reputation for precision, and you can see it in the way the pattern sits on the surface of this rug. Polypropylene doesn't fade in our harsh Australian sun the way some natural fibres do, and it's the reason we trust it in living rooms with northern light. At 12mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. The construction is built to take the daily compression of foot traffic without flattening through the centre.
How it looks
Worth a moment on the look of it. Blue-toned rugs lift a room without dominating it. They pair especially well with brass, oak, and a lot of natural light. The pattern reads as quietly contemporary rather than fashionable — the kind of design that doesn't date in a hurry. Layered over a hard floor, it gives a room the visual weight it usually needs at floor level.
Living with it
In a real Australian room, this is the kind of piece that works in a Geelong worker's cottage renovation where the room has been opened up but the proportions remain modest. Synthetic pile means you can keep on top of it without specialist care — a regular vacuum and the occasional damp wipe is the entire maintenance routine. The pile does not snag, which matters if you have a clawed animal in the house. We have customers who have lived with the same rug for the better part of a decade. It still looks intentional.
On sizing
If this is going under a dining table, measure the table and add at least 60cm on each side so the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. The Rug Size Guide walks through the details.
If you have read this far, you probably already know whether Francis Blue Kyanite is the piece for your room.
FAQs
Can I cut the rug to size?
We don't recommend cutting a finished rug — the edges are bound and the construction relies on that binding to stay intact. If you need a custom size, message us and we'll see what's possible.
Is the back of the rug latex-coated?
The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.
Will the pattern repeat be obvious?
Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
How do I get rid of a stain?
Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
How long does delivery take to my address?
Most metro orders arrive within 3–7 business days. Regional and remote addresses can take a little longer. We'll send tracking the moment your rug leaves the warehouse.
