We carry Contemporary Cove because it answers a very specific brief: a hard-wearing rug at a sensible price.
How it looks
The colour story matters here. Beige has come a long way from the 1990s — modern beige rugs carry a warm, taupe-leaning tone that reads sophisticated rather than dated. There is enough variation in the weave to keep the rug from reading flat — it has depth without busyness. Up close, you can see how the colour shifts slightly across the pile — that subtle variation is what stops the surface looking printed.
How it's made
In one line: Belgian Wilton-woven. The Wilton tradition in Belgium produces rugs with extremely fine pattern detail — the kind of edge clarity that holds up under close inspection. We have lived with polypropylene rugs in our own homes for years. They survive children, vacuum cleaners, and the occasional small disaster without losing their shape. The pile height is 15mm — substantial enough to feel luxurious without crossing into shaggy territory. Construction-wise, this is built to look the same six months in as the day it arrived.
Day-to-day
We see this style most often in a Brisbane Queenslander where the breezy palette of the room calls for something quietly grounded. The synthetic fibre tolerates household cleaners better than wool, but in our experience nothing more aggressive than cool soapy water is ever necessary. The pile does not snag, which matters if you have a clawed animal in the house. Once you have it down, the rug is one of the lowest-maintenance pieces of furniture you will ever buy.
On sizing
If you are between sizes, we almost always recommend sizing up. Our Rug Size Guide has the room-by-room measurements we use ourselves.
Contemporary Cove is one of the easier yeses in our range — solidly made, calmly priced, no surprises.
Things customers ask
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
How thick is the rug overall?
The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.
Does this rug ship rolled or folded?
Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
How do I get rid of a stain?
Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
Can I cut the rug to size?
We don't recommend cutting a finished rug — the edges are bound and the construction relies on that binding to stay intact. If you need a custom size, message us and we'll see what's possible.
