About the make
Belgian-woven. Belgian mills are the benchmark for machine-made design definition. The look is crisper than what you'd get from most other origins. We sell a lot of polypropylene because it does the one thing most Australian families ask of a rug: survive children, dogs, and the occasional glass of red without complaint. At 15mm, the pile is on the plusher side of our range — it has the kind of give that makes a bedroom rug worth waking up to. The construction is built to take the daily compression of foot traffic without flattening through the centre.
Colour and pattern
Worth a moment on the look of it. Blue is a forgiving colour in a rug — it reads calm, it works in coastal rooms, and it sits beautifully against the white walls common in Australian builds. The pattern carries the lineage of traditional design without committing to the full formal palette of an antique piece. From above, the surface has a quiet visual rhythm — close up, the construction details start to show.
Living with it
It is a comfortable fit in the master bedroom of a coastal NSW home, where the rug is the first thing your feet touch in the morning — exactly the kind of space most of our customers are decorating. Avoid steam, avoid bleach, avoid solvent cleaners. Cool water and mild detergent is the protocol our family uses on every poly rug we own. Pet hair vacuums out cleanly — the fibre does not hold dander the way a natural pile sometimes can. Vacuum once a week, spot-treat the inevitable accidents, and the rug does not ask for anything else.
Picking the right size
If this is going under a dining table, measure the table and add at least 60cm on each side so the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. The Rug Size Guide walks through the details.
Contemporary Cove is the rug our family would buy for our own home — and a few of us have.
Things customers ask
How thick is the rug overall?
The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
How do I get rid of a stain?
Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.
