We don't keep every rug we get offered, and Contemporary Cove earns its place for a particular reason.

What's under the surface

The short version: Belgian Wilton-woven. Belgian weaving has a reputation for precision, and you can see it in the way the pattern sits on the surface of this rug. Density and twist are what separate a good polypropylene rug from a poor one — both have been done properly here. The 15mm pile gives this rug genuine softness underfoot — particularly good for a bedroom or a sitting room you actually want to sit on the floor in. The result is a rug that feels considered without crossing into precious territory.

Day-to-day

Day to day, it earns its keep in any room that has polished concrete floors as a starting point. If a spill dries before you get to it, dampen the area with cool water, work the cloth from the outside in, and the dried residue lifts back out. Pet hair vacuums out cleanly — the fibre does not hold dander the way a natural pile sometimes can. Rug pad underneath on a hard floor — that is the one accessory we would not skip.

How it looks

Worth a moment on the look of it. Rust is the orange that grown-ups choose — earthy, faded, deeply warm, and never garish. The pattern carries the lineage of traditional design without committing to the full formal palette of an antique piece. Photographs flatten the surface; in person, the weave reads with more dimension than any catalogue image can convey.

On sizing

Sizes range across our usual run — if you're unsure which to pick, our Rug Size Guide walks through the common Australian room layouts.

Contemporary Cove ends up in a lot of finished rooms because it earns its place without insisting on it.

FAQs

Will it cope with kids and pets?

Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.

Is the back of the rug latex-coated?

The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

Will the pattern repeat be obvious?

Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.

Can I put a rug pad underneath?

Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
