Among the rugs we carry, Contemporary Cove is one of the easiest to recommend.
On the design
The colour story matters here. Cream-based rugs sit comfortably in almost any palette — they brighten without bleaching the room out. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. From the kitchen looking through to the lounge, the rug reads as a single grounding plane rather than a competing pattern.
Living with it
In a typical Australian living room — pale oak floorboards, high white walls with skirting in cream — it sits comfortably without competing for attention. Cleaning protocol is intentionally simple: blot fresh spills, vacuum weekly, get a professional clean every few years if it sees heavy use. The pile does not snag, which matters if you have a clawed animal in the house. We have laid one of these under our own dining table for several years; it still reads as new.
Construction
At a glance: Belgian-made with European precision. The Wilton tradition in Belgium produces rugs with extremely fine pattern detail — the kind of edge clarity that holds up under close inspection. Polypropylene yarns take colour exceptionally well — the tones you see in the photo are stable and hold up under daily sun exposure. At 15mm, the pile is on the plusher side of our range — it has the kind of give that makes a bedroom rug worth waking up to. Construction-wise, this is built to look the same six months in as the day it arrived.
Which size?
If this is going under a dining table, measure the table and add at least 60cm on each side so the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. The Rug Size Guide walks through the details.
Choose Contemporary Cove if you want the result more than you want the story.
FAQs
Can I use this with underfloor heating?
Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
Does this rug ship rolled or folded?
Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
Will it sit flat once unrolled?
Almost always within 24–48 hours. If you see any waves from the rolled packaging, lay the rug pile-up in the room and let it relax overnight — gravity does the rest. For stubborn corners, rolling the rug briefly in the opposite direction usually does it.
