If we made a short list of the safest rugs to commit to without second-guessing, Alaska Runner Beige would be on it.

On the design

Worth a moment on the look of it. Beige is the most forgiving floor colour we carry — it hides dust, dog hair, and the small disasters of daily life better than almost any other shade. Up close, the construction details emerge; from across the room, the rug reads as a single restrained colour field. Up close, you can see how the colour shifts slightly across the pile — that subtle variation is what stops the surface looking printed.

What's under the surface

At a glance: Produced with day-to-day Australian homes in mind. We've curated this one for its honest, hard-wearing build rather than for any particular regional story. Synthetic fibre means hypoallergenic in the most useful sense — no lanolin, no animal dander, no shedding to speak of. At 8mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. Density is what matters with a piece like this — it is what gives the rug its longevity.

Picking the right size

Runners are about scale, not just length — leave at least 10cm of floor visible on each side of the runner so the hallway doesn't feel boxed in. Our Rug Size Guide has the proportions we recommend.

Practical notes

Sun, rain, and the occasional cyclonic afternoon — this construction handles all of it. Hose-down cleaning is the main upkeep. If a spill dries before you get to it, dampen the area with cool water, work the cloth from the outside in, and the dried residue lifts back out. It tolerates open doors, indoor-outdoor traffic, and the dust that an Australian summer drags in across a polished concrete floor.

Worth a place in your living room if you want the kind of piece that looks better six months in.

Things customers ask

Will it cope with kids and pets?

Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.

Will it sit flat once unrolled?

Almost always within 24–48 hours. If you see any waves from the rolled packaging, lay the rug pile-up in the room and let it relax overnight — gravity does the rest. For stubborn corners, rolling the rug briefly in the opposite direction usually does it.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

Can I put a rug pad underneath?

Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.

Can I use this with underfloor heating?

Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.
