FEATURES:
Look closely at Alaska Beige and the thing you'll notice first is the way the colour holds together.
How it's made
The short version: Produced with day-to-day Australian homes in mind. We've curated this one for its honest, hard-wearing build rather than for any particular regional story. Polypropylene is the fibre we end up recommending in roughly four out of five conversations with new customers. It is honest, hard-wearing, and forgiving. A 8mm pile feels soft on bare feet but doesn't trap dust the way a longer pile can. The result is a rug that feels considered without crossing into precious territory.
How it handles real life
The construction is UV-stable and the fibre does not absorb water — hose it down, let it dry in the sun, and it is back in service. For wine, blood, or any pigmented spill, blot quickly with cold water and a mild detergent — the colour will lift before it has time to bond. Lay it once and forget it is there. That is the right frame of mind for a piece like this.
How it looks
The colour story matters here. Beige has come a long way from the 1990s — modern beige rugs carry a warm, taupe-leaning tone that reads sophisticated rather than dated. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. Stand in the doorway and the rug barely registers; sit on the floor and the texture and pile depth come forward.
Picking the right size
Sizes range across our usual run — if you're unsure which to pick, our Rug Size Guide walks through the common Australian room layouts.
Alaska Beige is for you if your brief is calm, considered, and easy to live with.
Things customers ask
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
How thick is the rug overall?
The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.
How do I get rid of a stain?
Hose it down. If the spill is something serious, a mild detergent and a soft brush will get the rest, and the sun finishes the job.
Do you offer samples?
We don't typically send physical samples — most of our customers find the photos and our written notes get them close enough. If you want extra photos in natural light, message us and we'll send them through.
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
