FEATURES:
If we made a short list of the safest rugs to commit to without second-guessing, Alaska Light Grey would be on it.
On colour
Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. There's a reason grey has been the default neutral of the last decade — it forgives, it cools, and it lets coloured furniture and art read clearly above it. Visually, the rug is doing the work of a quiet anchor — not a pattern statement, not a punctuation mark, simply a calm plane underfoot. It plays nicely with a low timber coffee table, a linen sofa, and the kind of considered clutter most lived-in rooms accumulate.
How it's made
In one line: Produced with day-to-day Australian homes in mind. We've curated this one for its honest, hard-wearing build rather than for any particular regional story. The fibre is synthetic, but the modern poly yarns we work with feel close to soft wool underfoot and clean up far more easily. A 8mm pile feels soft on bare feet but doesn't trap dust the way a longer pile can. Construction-wise, this is built to look the same six months in as the day it arrived.
Practical notes
Sun, rain, and the occasional cyclonic afternoon — this construction handles all of it. Hose-down cleaning is the main upkeep. It will not stain the way a wool or cotton rug can — wine, juice, and pet accidents lift with a damp cloth if you get to them within a reasonable window. We have laid one of these under our own dining table for several years; it still reads as new.
Sizing
We carry this in a few sizes — a 160x230cm sits well under a coffee table, a 200x290cm anchors a standard three-piece lounge, and the 240x330cm extends well past a queen bed. See our Rug Size Guide for the full layout breakdown.
If the room has earned a rug like Alaska Light Grey, the rest of the decisions tend to follow.
Things customers ask
Does this rug ship rolled or folded?
Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Yes, but a hose is usually faster and just as effective.
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Will it sit flat once unrolled?
Almost always within 24–48 hours. If you see any waves from the rolled packaging, lay the rug pile-up in the room and let it relax overnight — gravity does the rest. For stubborn corners, rolling the rug briefly in the opposite direction usually does it.
