Size

Textured relief and compact weaving, give our Imperial collection, both a sense and look of opulence. Deferentially constructed to form flat and raised pile areas, these rugs project a tactile character all of their own. Subtle patterns, with lustrous sheen in both abstract and vintage designs make these rugs a suitable pairing for most spaces, be they modern or traditional. Woven from a combination of 55% Polyester and 45% Polypropylene, with raised sections at an 11mm pile height, these timeless pieces, which capture and radiate light, will be the talking point of your decor.

If your styling reference points are linen, oak, and quiet pottery, Imperial Rift sits comfortably in that conversation.

Practical notes

In practice, this style sits well over warm timber floors, particularly when the rest of the room runs to putty-painted walls. The synthetic fibre tolerates household cleaners better than wool, but in our experience nothing more aggressive than cool soapy water is ever necessary. Pet-friendly in the most useful sense: claws won't catch the way they do on a looped pile, and the surface vacuums cleanly. Build the room around it. It will hold the centre and stay quiet while the rest of the space changes around it.

How it looks

Grey rugs sit quietly in a room and let the rest of the space do the talking — it's why they outsell almost everything else we carry. There is enough variation in the weave to keep the rug from reading flat — it has depth without busyness. Layered with a leather chair, a brass floor lamp, and a stack of books, the rug holds its end of the conversation without forcing it.

How it's made

At a glance: Belgian-woven. Belgian mills are the benchmark for machine-made design definition. The look is crisper than what you'd get from most other origins. What polypropylene gives up in heritage feel it more than makes back in colourfastness and easy upkeep. At 11mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. The yarn count is dense enough that the pattern reads sharply without losing softness underfoot.

Sizing

For sizing, the short version is: front legs of the sofa should sit on the rug. For the long version, see our Rug Size Guide.

Choose Imperial Rift if you want the result more than you want the story.

Common questions

Will it cope with kids and pets?

Yes, comfortably. Synthetic pile is stain-resistant, doesn't snag under claws, and lifts spills cleanly. It's the construction we recommend most to growing families.

Will the colour look the same as the website photo?

Very close, but never identical — every screen renders colour slightly differently, and the rug itself will read warmer or cooler depending on the light in your room. If you want certainty, message us and we'll send additional photos taken in natural light.

Will this rug shed?

No, not in the meaningful sense. Synthetic pile is heat-set rather than spun from short staple fibres, so you may see a small amount of fibre in the first week and very little after that.

Is the back of the rug latex-coated?

The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.

Can I use this with underfloor heating?

Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.
