The subtle design of the Chester collection features an eclectic blend of dappled blue, green and grey shading, which is both cool and inviting. Although ornamental the marbled synthesis of color will never overpower complementary decor elements, making this range perfect for any living space. Great with wood, gorgeous over tiles, and available in a variety of sizes, the Chester rug is simple to clean and will remain attractive for years to come. FEATURES:
Walk into a finished room with Chester Runner Blue laid in it and the rug is the last thing you notice, in the best possible way.
Colour and pattern
Worth a moment on the look of it. Blue-toned rugs lift a room without dominating it. They pair especially well with brass, oak, and a lot of natural light. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. We have laid this in rooms with bold artwork above and minimal furniture, and it sits comfortably in both.
Built and finished
Belgian-made with European precision. Belgian mills are the benchmark for machine-made design definition. The look is crisper than what you'd get from most other origins. Polypropylene doesn't fade in our harsh Australian sun the way some natural fibres do, and it's the reason we trust it in living rooms with northern light. The pile is 12mm, which is what we'd call a true everyday pile — the kind of weight you want under a coffee table or a dining setting. Construction-wise, this is built to look the same six months in as the day it arrived.
Picking the right size
A runner needs to leave a hand's-width of floor visible at each end of the hallway — see our Rug Size Guide for the room-by-room guidance.
How it handles real life
Picture polished concrete floors and limewashed walls — that is the kind of room this rug is at home in. For everyday care, vacuum weekly and spot-clean spills as they happen — a damp cloth and a small amount of mild detergent handles almost anything. Rug pad underneath on a hard floor — that is the one accessory we would not skip.
Chester Runner Blue ends up in the kind of homes where pieces are kept rather than swapped — and that is the highest compliment a rug can earn.
Questions we get asked
How thick is the rug overall?
The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.
Will the pattern repeat be obvious?
Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Does it work with a robot vacuum?
Yes for low and medium piles. For the deeper shaggies in our range, a robot vacuum will struggle a bit — you'll get better results with a regular upright on a higher setting.
