Some rugs need to be sold; Chester Blue sells itself once you see it in person.

What's under the surface

At a glance: Woven in Belgium. Belgian mills are the benchmark for machine-made design definition. The look is crisper than what you'd get from most other origins. If a rug is going to sit in a room where life actually happens, polypropylene is the fibre we trust to handle it. At 12mm, this is a sensible everyday pile — substantial without being shaggy, easy to keep clean. The yarn count is dense enough that the pattern reads sharply without losing softness underfoot.

Living with it

In practice, in a typical Australian living room — warm timber floors, warm white interiors — it sits comfortably without competing for attention. Care for this one as you would a hard floor — sweep or vacuum regularly and address spills when they happen. The fibre does the rest. Pet-friendly in the most useful sense: claws won't catch the way they do on a looped pile, and the surface vacuums cleanly. It tolerates open doors, indoor-outdoor traffic, and the dust that an Australian summer drags in across a polished concrete floor.

Colour and pattern

Worth a moment on the look of it. Grey rugs sit quietly in a room and let the rest of the space do the talking — it's why they outsell almost everything else we carry. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. Photographs flatten the surface; in person, the weave reads with more dimension than any catalogue image can convey.

On sizing

Have a tape measure handy before you commit — our Rug Size Guide has the layouts most of our customers end up choosing.

Chester Blue is the rug our family would buy for our own home — and a few of us have.

Things customers ask

Is the back of the rug latex-coated?

The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.

How do I get rid of a stain?

Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.

Will the colour look the same as the website photo?

Very close, but never identical — every screen renders colour slightly differently, and the rug itself will read warmer or cooler depending on the light in your room. If you want certainty, message us and we'll send additional photos taken in natural light.

Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?

There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.

Will the pattern repeat be obvious?

Not on this construction. The pattern is woven across the full face of the rug rather than printed, so you won't see the kind of seam-like repetition you sometimes get with a printed surface.
