The colour story on Outdoor Sisal Sisal Brown is what brought it into our range first.
How it looks
Brown rugs ground a room with quiet weight — they work especially well under a leather sofa or a heavy timber dining table. There is enough variation in the weave to keep the rug from reading flat — it has depth without busyness. Up close, you can see how the colour shifts slightly across the pile — that subtle variation is what stops the surface looking printed.
Practical notes
Day to day, sun, rain, and the occasional cyclonic afternoon — this construction handles all of it. Hose-down cleaning is the main upkeep. If a spill dries before you get to it, dampen the area with cool water, work the cloth from the outside in, and the dried residue lifts back out. Vacuum once a week, spot-treat the inevitable accidents, and the rug does not ask for anything else.
What's under the surface
At a glance: Woven in Belgium. Belgian mills are the benchmark for machine-made design definition. The look is crisper than what you'd get from most other origins. If a rug is going to sit in a room where life actually happens, polypropylene is the fibre we trust to handle it. At 6mm the pile is short and tight — the structure underneath is doing most of the work, which is what gives a flatweave its longevity. The yarn count is dense enough that the pattern reads sharply without losing softness underfoot.
Which size?
If you are between sizes, we almost always recommend sizing up. Our Rug Size Guide has the room-by-room measurements we use ourselves.
Order with confidence: this is one of the pieces our customers most often write back to tell us about.
Things customers ask
Is the back of the rug latex-coated?
The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.
Will the rug fade in direct sun?
The dye on this construction is specifically UV-stabilised for outdoor use — it holds up to direct Australian sun in a way that an indoor rug never could.
Can I cut the rug to size?
We don't recommend cutting a finished rug — the edges are bound and the construction relies on that binding to stay intact. If you need a custom size, message us and we'll see what's possible.
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Will the colour look the same as the website photo?
Very close, but never identical — every screen renders colour slightly differently, and the rug itself will read warmer or cooler depending on the light in your room. If you want certainty, message us and we'll send additional photos taken in natural light.
