Messina Bedrock is one of the pieces our family keeps coming back to.
How it's made
At a glance: Belgian-woven. The Wilton tradition in Belgium produces rugs with extremely fine pattern detail — the kind of edge clarity that holds up under close inspection. If a rug is going to sit in a room where life actually happens, polypropylene is the fibre we trust to handle it. The 20mm pile is what gives this rug its plush hand-feel. It is best in rooms where comfort matters more than vacuum frequency. Construction-wise, this is built to look the same six months in as the day it arrived.
About the look
There's a reason grey has been the default neutral of the last decade — it forgives, it cools, and it lets coloured furniture and art read clearly above it. The pattern is broken just enough at the surface to keep the visual rhythm interesting without ever feeling busy. It plays nicely with a low timber coffee table, a linen sofa, and the kind of considered clutter most lived-in rooms accumulate.
How it handles real life
We see this style most often in a Perth open-plan living-dining where one large rug has to define both zones. Cleaning protocol is intentionally simple: blot fresh spills, vacuum weekly, get a professional clean every few years if it sees heavy use. Pet hair vacuums out cleanly — the fibre does not hold dander the way a natural pile sometimes can. We sell more of this style to families with school-age children than to any other group, which says something about how it lives.
Picking the right size
If this is going under a dining table, measure the table and add at least 60cm on each side so the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. The Rug Size Guide walks through the details.
We back this one for the buyer who would rather move on with the rest of the renovation than keep deliberating.
Common questions
How long does delivery take to my address?
Most metro orders arrive within 3–7 business days. Regional and remote addresses can take a little longer. We'll send tracking the moment your rug leaves the warehouse.
Can I steam clean this rug?
Light steam is fine for synthetic pile. Avoid prolonged direct heat in one spot, and let the rug dry completely before walking on it.
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Can I put a rug pad underneath?
Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
How thick is the rug overall?
The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.
