Quiet, considered, and easy to commit to — that's the short version of Novas Grey Turquoise.

Living with it

In a real Australian room, we see this style most often in newer Australian builds with pale oak floorboards and a lot of glazing. For wine, blood, or any pigmented spill, blot quickly with cold water and a mild detergent — the colour will lift before it has time to bond. We sell more of this style to families with school-age children than to any other group, which says something about how it lives.

How it looks

A grey-toned rug is the easiest way to anchor a room without committing to a strong palette. Stand a metre back and the pattern recedes into texture — that quality is why the rug reads calm rather than busy. Walk past it daily and you stop noticing it consciously — which is the highest compliment a quiet rug can earn.

Built and finished

Underneath the look, Anatolian-woven. Turkey remains the place where heritage design and modern weaving meet most comfortably — you get the look of a hand-knotted rug at a fraction of the cost. Polypropylene is the workhorse fibre of modern rugs — it doesn't absorb spills, it doesn't hold dust, and it bounces back from foot traffic faster than wool. The pile height is 15mm — substantial enough to feel luxurious without crossing into shaggy territory. Look at the underside and you can see how dense the weave actually is — it is the part of the rug that does the real work.

On sizing

We carry this in a few sizes — a 160x230cm sits well under a coffee table, a 200x290cm anchors a standard three-piece lounge, and the 240x330cm extends well past a queen bed. See our Rug Size Guide for the full layout breakdown.

Worth the cost of admission for any room that needs a quiet, well-made centre point.

Questions we get asked

Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?

There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.

How thick is the rug overall?

The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.

How do I get rid of a stain?

Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.

Will the rug fade in direct sun?

Some fade is possible if a rug sits in direct, unfiltered sun day after day — that's true of any rug. The dyes used here are UV-stabilised and hold up well to the conditions in most Australian rooms.

Does this rug ship rolled or folded?

Rolled. We ship every rug in our range rolled and wrapped — folding can leave a crease in the pile that takes a few weeks to settle out, so we avoid it.
