Understated elegance lends spectacular class to the floral design of this range in its cool hues of blue or grey and relaxed tones of subtle rose or mustard. Medina is fashionably on point with its exceptionally chic, faded look. It's Trendy, but features a classic design, so it will highlight the features of a room without being overbearing in any way. This rug with its contemporary countenance will create an ambient, genteel mood in your living space that will, certainly, be an element of ongoing pride.

It is rare for a piece to satisfy both the value-conscious buyer and the customer renovating to keep — Medina Dark Blue manages both.

How it looks

Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. Blue is a forgiving colour in a rug — it reads calm, it works in coastal rooms, and it sits beautifully against the white walls common in Australian builds. Design-wise, the surface is restrained enough to layer with strong artwork or strong upholstery without competing. Across a 200x290cm or 240x330cm, that calm reads as confidence rather than absence.

Built and finished

At a glance: Woven in Turkey. Turkey has been the centre of rug-making for centuries, and the power-loom tradition that came out of Anatolia in the late 20th century is what makes a piece like this possible at a sensible price. The fibre is synthetic, but the modern poly yarns we work with feel close to soft wool underfoot and clean up far more easily. A 10mm pile feels soft on bare feet but doesn't trap dust the way a longer pile can. Edges are bound and finished cleanly so they sit flat and stay flat.

Which size?

If this is going under a dining table, measure the table and add at least 60cm on each side so the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. The Rug Size Guide walks through the details.

Practical notes

In a real Australian room, in any room with white-washed timber, this rug adds the visual weight the floor needs to feel finished. Synthetic pile means you can keep on top of it without specialist care — a regular vacuum and the occasional damp wipe is the entire maintenance routine. It handles a Labrador, a Cavoodle, or two of each. We have heard variations on that brief many times. We sell more of this style to families with school-age children than to any other group, which says something about how it lives.

Worth a place in your living room if you want the kind of piece that looks better six months in.

Questions we get asked

Will this rug shed?

No, not in the meaningful sense. Synthetic pile is heat-set rather than spun from short staple fibres, so you may see a small amount of fibre in the first week and very little after that.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

How do I get rid of a stain?

Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.

Can I return it if it isn't right?

Yes — we offer a clear returns window because we know a rug needs to be seen in the actual room. The details are on our returns page, and we'll talk you through it if anything is unclear.

Can I put a rug pad underneath?

Yes, and we'd recommend it on hard floors. A pad keeps the rug from slipping, adds a little extra softness underfoot, and helps the pile wear evenly over time.
