Plain-spoken about what it is and what it does — that's how we'd describe Contemporary Cove Runner.

On colour

The colour story matters here. Reds are bold by nature and reward rooms with enough scale to carry them — high ceilings, good light, generous walls. The design holds its proportions at every size we run — the medium and large sizes do not look like enlarged versions of the smaller piece. Walk past it daily and you stop noticing it consciously — which is the highest compliment a quiet rug can earn.

Construction

At a glance: Belgian Wilton-woven. Belgium's Wilton looms are some of the most exacting in the world — the colour separation and pattern definition you get from them is hard to match elsewhere. Modern polypropylene is a long way from the scratchy synthetic of twenty years ago. Soft underfoot, dense in the weave, and entirely washable. At 15mm, the pile is on the plusher side of our range — it has the kind of give that makes a bedroom rug worth waking up to. The construction is built to take the daily compression of foot traffic without flattening through the centre.

How it handles real life

This style sits well over pale oak floorboards, particularly when the rest of the room runs to double-height living spaces with a lot of glazing. It will not stain the way a wool or cotton rug can — wine, juice, and pet accidents lift with a damp cloth if you get to them within a reasonable window. Rug pad underneath on a hard floor — that is the one accessory we would not skip.

Sizing

A runner needs to leave a hand's-width of floor visible at each end of the hallway — see our Rug Size Guide for the room-by-room guidance.

If you want a rug that looks like it has always lived there, this is the one.

Common questions

Will it sit flat once unrolled?

Almost always within 24–48 hours. If you see any waves from the rolled packaging, lay the rug pile-up in the room and let it relax overnight — gravity does the rest. For stubborn corners, rolling the rug briefly in the opposite direction usually does it.

How do I get rid of a stain?

Blot — never rub. Cool water and a small amount of mild detergent on a clean cloth handles most spills. Work from the outside of the stain in. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals.

Is the colour the same on both sides?

No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.

How thick is the rug overall?

The total thickness includes the pile plus the backing — for most of our rugs, that ends up somewhere between 8mm and 30mm depending on the pile listed. If you need a precise figure for a door clearance, message us and we'll measure.

Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?

There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
