The Montana Dune Ridge features a beautiful blend of neutral and green tones, enhanced by its luxurious viscose-wool blend. Its high-density wool pile provides both comfort and durability underfoot. Perfect for any space, these handcrafted wool rugs serve as a stunning centerpiece, adding warmth and elegance to any room.
Montana Dune Ridge Large Textured is one of the rugs we recommend to customers who have already bought a wool piece elsewhere and want something more practical for a high-traffic room.
Colour and pattern
Looked at honestly, the design is doing two things. A grey-toned rug is the easiest way to anchor a room without committing to a strong palette. There is enough variation in the weave to keep the rug from reading flat — it has depth without busyness. Layered with a leather chair, a brass floor lamp, and a stack of books, the rug holds its end of the conversation without forcing it.
What's under the surface
At a glance: Hand-woven in India. India's handloom workshops produce textile pieces with a tactile quality that's very hard to replicate on a machine. A wool rug behaves differently from a synthetic one. It sheds lightly for the first few months (that's normal), then settles into a piece you'll keep for decades. At 15mm, the pile is on the plusher side of our range — it has the kind of give that makes a bedroom rug worth waking up to. Construction-wise, this is built to look the same six months in as the day it arrived.
Sizing
If you are between sizes, we almost always recommend sizing up. Our Rug Size Guide has the room-by-room measurements we use ourselves.
Day-to-day
Among the rooms our customers describe to us, in newer Australian builds with pale oak floorboards and a lot of glazing is the most common context for a piece like this. Wool wants gentler care than a synthetic. Vacuum without a beater bar where possible, blot spills immediately, and get any serious staining professionally cleaned rather than scrubbing. We have laid one of these under our own dining table for several years; it still reads as new.
If your brief sits anywhere near 'considered, calm, and built to last', this is the rug.
Common questions
Does the rug have a strong smell when it arrives?
There may be a faint factory or packaging smell on opening — it airs out within a day or two. Lay the rug out, open the windows, and it will settle quickly.
Is the colour the same on both sides?
No — the pile side is the finished face. The reverse shows the construction and is usually a slightly different colour because the dye penetrates the surface rather than the entire fibre.
Can I use this with underfloor heating?
Yes — the pile is not so dense that it traps heat, and the backing handles the moderate temperatures typical of residential underfloor systems.
Is the back of the rug latex-coated?
The backing is a standard textile finish — it sits flat on the floor and won't mark timber boards. For hard floors, we'd still recommend a rug pad to keep it from sliding.
Can I cut the rug to size?
We don't recommend cutting a finished rug — the edges are bound and the construction relies on that binding to stay intact. If you need a custom size, message us and we'll see what's possible.
